Landquart Fashion Outlet Partnership

Landquart Fashion Outlet supports WWF Graubünden’s moorland conservation project. The aim of the project is to better protect, maintain and revitalize moorlands. Among other activities, moorlands are enhanced on site with the help of volunteers. The new interactive exhibition “Supertalent Moor” also makes an important contribution to raising awareness of the importance of moorlands.

Our collaboration

Moorlands are unique ecosystems that play an important role for nature and our climate. Intact moorlands provide habitat for rare, highly specialized and endangered animals and plants. However, over the past 200 years, 90% of moorlands in Switzerland have been destroyed. Today, they are strictly protected, but their quality continues to decline. As carbon sinks, moorlands play a particularly important role in climate protection. New findings show that peat soils worldwide store 20 percent of CO2, twice as much as all forests. However, drainage and more intensive use of moorlands and adjacent habitats remove water from peat soils. Oxygen enters the soil and the peat begins to decompose. The carbon stored in the soil is released into the atmosphere, accelerating global warming.

Moorlands are true all-round talents and perform further important functions such as flood protection, water storage and purification, as well as providing a cooling and pleasant microclimate. Moorlands deserve more attention.

Landquart Fashion Outlet provides financial support to WWF to help protect and revitalize this important habitat.

In the 2026 project year, a particular focus will be placed on initiating new revitalization projects and on the maintenance and enhancement of moorlands with the help of volunteers.

Another component of the partnership is raising awareness among visitors directly on site. The “Supertalent Moor” exhibition will be presented on the premises of Landquart Fashion Outlet. In a clear and interactive way, it explains why intact moorlands are indispensable for nature and the climate: they provide valuable habitat for specialized and endangered animal and plant species, store water, contribute to flood protection and bind large amounts of CO2. At the same time, the exhibition shows why moorlands are particularly threatened today and why their protection, maintenance and revitalization remain urgently necessary. Visitors also learn how they can actively contribute to moorland conservation.
