Partnership with Migros Group 2024
The Federation of Migros Cooperatives (MGB) has been committed to environmental protection together with WWF for over 20 years. Since 2009, this has taken place within the framework of a comprehensive strategic partnership that includes ambitious goals in the most relevant environmental areas.
In 2024, Migros set the course for a new, group-wide sustainability strategy, which it published in the first quarter of 2025. The existing goals from the partnership with WWF were retained and refined.

CLIMATE AND ENERGY
In 2024, Migros disclosed its overarching Scope 3 target to WWF for the first time. As a strategic umbrella, it complements the existing goals and makes the climate strategy more complete and transparent. Existing goals were also further developed and refined. All detailed targets, including the specific net-zero objective under the SBTi commitment, have now been validated by SBTi. The complete greenhouse gas inventory continues to be published on the Migros Webhub.
Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 70.6% by 2030 Compared to 2019
Migros aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70.6% by 2030 compared to 2019. Emissions are measured in tonnes of CO₂e. The scope covers the entire Migros Group worldwide.
Note: The target was narrowly missed due to renewed refrigerant incidents. Migros has developed a conversion plan to natural refrigerants, which is being implemented step by step to better address this challenge in the future.
Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Along the Value Chains (Scope 3) by 90% by 2050 Compared to 2019
The Migros Group aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions along its value chains (Scope 3) by 90% by 2050 compared to 2019. This applies to the entire Migros Group worldwide.
Note: Migros continuously develops its emission accounting methodology. This initially led to an increase. Additionally, the computational representation of reductions achieved through concrete measures is not yet possible in all cases.
Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (Scope 3, Category 15)
Migros Bank has set specific targets for emission reductions. In 2024, it developed a target pathway for financed greenhouse gas emissions from its investment and mortgage business, aiming for net-zero by 2050.
This will be communicated in its 2025 annual report.
Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Combustion of Sold Fuels (Migrol) (Scope 3, Category 11) by 46.2% by 2030 Compared to 2019
The Migros Group aims to reduce emissions from the use of sold fossil fuels (Migrol) by 46.2% by 2030 compared to 2019. The reduction target for the 2024 reporting year was achieved.
Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (Scope 3, Category 4) by 27.5% by 2030 Compared to 2019
The Migros Group aims to reduce emissions from upstream goods transport, including air transport worldwide (Scope 3, Category 4), by 27.5% by 2030 compared to 2019.
Following the announcement of the new group-wide sustainability strategy, Migros will adopt concrete measures in 2025. All transport modes will be considered: road transport will be made more climate-friendly, rail and ship transport will be maintained or increased, and further reduction potential will be identified for air transport.
Reduction of Air Transport Emissions
In addition to the group’s SBTi commitment, Migros has set a goal to reduce its air transport emissions by 8,750 tonnes of CO₂e by 2025 compared to 2018. The scope includes supermarkets, consumer markets, specialty stores, food and non-food products, but excludes cut flowers.
In 2024, absolute CO₂e emissions from airfreighted goods amounted to 24,078 tonnes. Migros exceeded the target. A contribution is made to the Migros Climate Fund for all air transports, creating an additional internal incentive to avoid air transport.
Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (Scope 3, Category 1) Compared to 2019
The Migros Group aims for 67% of non-agricultural emissions (non-FLAG) from procured products and services to be covered by science-based reduction targets from suppliers by 2026.
In 2024, Migros Group again conducted webinars on setting SBTi targets for suppliers and pointed to further support offerings. Additionally, the Climate Fund can provide financial resources and expertise if measures demonstrably lead to production-related reductions. However, the transition is progressing more slowly than planned, so further measures are planned for 2025 to meet future milestones.

BIODIVERSITY
As part of the 2023 commitment to deforestation- and conversion-free supply chains, Migros is restructuring its reporting (Our Environmental Standards – Migros).
100% Certified Procurement Volume of All Deforestation-Critical Raw Materials in Private Label Products by 2025
In 2023, a certification target for key deforestation-critical raw materials was reported for the first time. The scope currently includes only Supermarket AG and Migros Industry. Raw materials in scope are cocoa, coffee, palm oil, palm kernel oil, and soy. For palm derivatives, only in-house industry suppliers are considered. Accepted certifications guarantee traceability and deforestation-free sourcing. Due to the new sustainability strategy, 2024 values are not comparable to the previous year. Group-wide reporting is planned for 2025.
100% Certified Revenue Share of All Wood Products in Private Label Assortment by 2025
Due to different measurement units, a dedicated performance indicator for wood was introduced and reported for transparency. This indicator is also not comparable to previous years due to the reporting change and will be reported at group level from 2025.
