Comment: The 2016 figures (including baseline) are currently still estimates and were corrected for 2017. Additionally, the figures now include coolants and effective numbers for fuels internationally. The reductions were mainly achieved through switchovers to more eco-friendly power (nationally and internationally).

Reduction in Food Waste

Emmi has set the target of reducing food waste by 20% compared to 2017 before 2020. Measured are the proportions of food waste in percentage. The scope of application comprises all of Emmi's own production operations, globally.

In 2018, the proportion of food waste increased by 2% over the previous year.

Comment: Emmi recorded its food waste in accordance with the FLW Standard for Swiss production companies for the first time in 2017. It is currently not possible to collect figures for Emmi globally. Higher volume of food waste in 2018 as a result of higher production volumes and reduced processing of whey into food. Work on a sustainable solution to process more whey into food is ongoing.
